ABOUT: Collared Kingfishers are a frequent visitors outside the artist’s coastal studio window and an inspiration for such a composition. This eye catching painting aims to bring out the beautiful features of the birds plumage, while using a playful colour palette as a complimentary background. Sadly, this species is suspected to be declining globally, owing to ongoing destruction of mangrove forests for man-made development. It is also known as the white-collared kingfisher, black-masked kingfisher or mangrove kingfisher.
